To me, Universal Solution belongs to one of few producers who knows how to keep a lengthy production 100% interesting from start to finish; intro & outro included! Check his >10 min. Wukari for example....or Yukon -- my all-time favourite ;-)
Universal Solution, a.k.a. Gavin Holland, is a celebrated UK-based composer of deep house (amongst other subgenres), perhaps best known for his extraordinary past contributions to the mighty Anjunadeep stable. His versatile sound is often classified as "leftfield," as distinctive a genre of electronic music as it is elusive to categorize. His breathtaking new "Lanza" EP once again saunters into leftfield; it proves to be a cerebral and emotive foray that evokes both contemplation and captivation.
"Lanza" introduces itself with a machine-like articulation. What begins as an exploration into atmospheric breaks soon directs itself towards a unified percussive path, as the half-time hits are filled with tight snares. Beneath the rigid exterior of the percussive hits exists a lush forest of sound, the branches of which gently sway beside airy textures.
The enchanting "Be Together" begins with a sensual groove, centering on the titular vocal motif. At the two-minute mark, the exotic bongos that underpin the composition temporarily recede, as trance keys spill forth a flood of rising emotions. Gently oscillating vocals scatter throughout the song, moving us closer to an ethereal rise that leaves the listener in a state of floating-on-air transcendence.
"The Space Between" maintains a cadence unto itself: mellow percussion, punctuated by a swirl of vocal and melodic motifs, allow us to quietly reflect upon our spiritual lives. Sweeping synth arrays add a cosmic level of contemplation and bring to a close Universal Solution's memorable sonic journey.
